  17. <p>     It has more of the feel of a timeless folktale retold than
  18. of the work of a modern novelist--and now Of Mice and Men,
  19. John Steinbeck's homey tragedy of two Depression-era laborers,
  20. is about to be told once again in a movie due for release in
  21. the fall. This version stars John Malkovich as the simpleminded
  22. giant Lennie and Twin Peaks' Sherilyn Fenn as his unintended
  23. victim. "She's like a terribly sad angel in this role," says
  24. director and co-star Gary Sinise. "Sherilyn plays against just
  25. being a sexy, beautiful girl. There's something always behind
  26. how she uses her sexuality. It's a form of communication for a
  27. desperately lonely woman."
